Episode 113: Mark Godoy Jr.

Content Note: This conversation includes discussion of childhood abuse and its lasting effects.

At seven years old, Mark Godoy Jr. was abused by an older cousin. What happened to him would reverberate across the decades that followed—through anger, isolation, difficulty trusting others, fractured relationships, and questions about vulnerability and what it meant to be a man. For years, Mark remained largely silent, not only about the abuse itself, but about the turmoil it created in his life and within his spirit.

Then he courageously began the difficult work of healing.

In this deeply personal and honest conversation, Mark talks about childhood sexual abuse and its lasting impact, the silence that often surrounds male survivors, his return to therapy, and the role faith and forgiveness have played in his life—not as reconciliation with the person who harmed him, but as a way of releasing himself from the anger he had carried for years. We also talk about the child Mark remembers being before the abuse: happy, affectionate and trusting—and the man he has become through the long process of reclaiming his life.

This is a conversation about what was lost, what can be healed, and the possibility of building a life beyond what happened to us.
